The General Secretariat of the Khalifa Award for Education stressed that the curricula developed and keep pace with the times represent one of the main pillars of the development of the education system at the local, regional and international levels, noting the importance of efforts related to the development of curricula at various academic levels in line with the scientific development witnessed by the future in various disciplines and educational programs, whether at the undergraduate or pre-university level, which requires researchers and specialists in the curriculum sector to make unremitting efforts to keep pace with them and interact with them continuously.

This came during the visit of the delegation of the General Secretariat of the Award to the National Center for Curriculum Development in the Kingdom of Jordan, and the delegation included: Mohammed Salem Al Dhaheri, member of the  Board of Trustees of the Khalifa Award for Education, Amal Al-Afifi, Secretary-General of the Award, Dr. Suad Al-Suwaidi, Deputy Secretary-General of the Award, and Dr. Jameela Khanji, member of the Executive Committee of the Award.

His Excellency Dr. Mohieddin Touq, Director of the National Center for Curriculum Development in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, gave an overview  of the mission and objectives of the Center and its role in curriculum development, saying: “Jordan is moving at a steady pace to modernize its political, economic and administrative system to consolidate the gains achieved in the first centenary of the state’s life and enter with determination and determination in the second centenary, Education in Jordan has played a fundamental and decisive role in consolidating the rules of the modern state, as education in any country, as it is known, constitutes the main pillar in the preparation of developing the human resources necessary for various sectors and fields. Moreover, quality education is directly linked to development and prosperity, which preserves the values of society, develops citizenship, science, literature and arts, it also encourages innovation, stimulates creativity, and provides individuals with the skills necessary for a decent life. Curricula in their broad sense are one of the main pillars of quality education.”

His Excellency added: “As long as the curricula are good and developed, and a high degree of compatibility with the developmental characteristics of learners, and meet their needs and the needs of society and the state, and in  line with scientific developments and best practices in the world as much as they contribute to achieving the goals of individuals, the state and society. Acquiring the knowledge and mental and performance skills, values and attitudes necessary for a decent life, facing the challenges of the future, and adapting to the rapid changes in science, technology, management and the labor market on the other hand, and on top of these skills: self-learning skills, learning how to learn, and searching for knowledge from various sources of learning, so that our students become lifelong learners.

His Excellency explained that the center has developed the general framework for curricula, which includes the desired educational products and necessary values, and the special frameworks for all basic topics to be a guide for curriculum developers, textbook preparers and teachers’ guides alike.

For his part, Mohammed Salem Al Dhaheri expressed the delegation’s appreciation for the joint cooperation between the two sides to serve the desired excellence in the educational field at all levels.

The delegation also met with Dr. Dhafer Al-Sarayreh, Chairman of the Higher Education Accreditation and  Quality Assurance Commission in the Kingdom, and the  two sides discussed the mechanisms of cooperation between the Commission and the Award, and the award delegation gave a comprehensive presentation on the fields presented in the current session, the nomination mechanisms for each of them and the specific criteria for each field.

Dr. Al-Sarayrah said, “The tremendous and rapid expansion of higher education institutions in the Kingdom has been accompanied by organizational, academic and administrative steps to supervise higher education, ensure its quality and raise its level.   Such accreditation and quality assurance were supervised by: the Higher Education Council for the period (1990-1999), then the Accreditation Council for the period (1999-2007), where public and private accreditation standards were formulated for the accreditation of private universities, quality control of higher education and ensuring its level at all levels through follow-up and supervision to ensure the continued adherence to These universities with standards and instructions, until the Higher Education Accreditation Commission Law No. (20) of 2007 was issued on 25/3/2007 to replace the Accreditation Council and the Commission was given financial and administrative independence, so it was the last link sponsored by the Jordanian state under high directives to confirm its support for higher education and ensure its level and quality at the local and international levels and keep pace with its outputs for the labor market and the future.”

He added: “Since the issuance of the Higher Education Accreditation Commission Law, the Commission has worked to formulate its vision, mission and strategic objectives and achieve them institutionally and systematically, and has taken upon itself as a legal person administratively and financially independent to carry out its responsibilities stipulated in the law towards higher education in Jordan and develop it to raise it to international levels.”
